ragehaus
2024
Ragehaus was an event designed for students to destress during finals. A classroom turned into a paint throwing room; the irony. Using a punk theme to allow our guests to free their angst, and get messy.
This project explores event storytelling and experience coordination. We were interested in creating an event based off our own stress in school, particularly how finals make us feel overwhelmed without a proper release.
To approach this, we designed an event to let our classmates release stress in a paint throwing room designed with prompts to give more structure and purpose to their release.
Through this process, I found that creating an event based off of personal needs makes for a more meaningful event and drive storytelling forward.
challenges
After naming our team “Xanax” since we felt our academic stress needed something to calm us down, we began ideating for an event theme that matched our person need to relax. We came up with the idea for a paint throwing room for our classmates to release stress and address their anxieties.
Using Priya Parker’s gathering principles, we analyzed how meaning is developed beyond just having fun. This meant understanding how angst and release could be combined into an event theme and execution. Through mood boards and discussions, a colorful punk theme came to fruition for Ragehaus
Ragehaus was a big success among our guests. With an average rating of 4.5/5, our guests said they felt were more relaxed and felt inspired after the event. This project taught me a lot about logistical coordination in order to get all the necessary pieces for the paint throwing room.
outcome
The paint room let our guests be as messy as they wanted, as long as they followed the prompts!
Every 15 minutes we changed the prompt.
Prompt 1: Create with the color that represents you.
Prompt 2: Self portrait with only geometric shapes.
Prompt 3: How are you feeling right now? Show it without touching the canvas.
Prompt 4: Write down everything on the canvas that’s causing you stress.
Prompt 5: It’s time to reset. Paint your canvas black.
Prompt 6: Write down everything you are grateful for.

From our final presentation, these were our key takeaways from the event
Our moodboard was developed using punk imagery and bright colors.
Our basic objectives of this event that we described in our final presentation. These words capture best how we imagined our event would impact guests.
